Under a contract with ‘Offshore WindForce WIK’ (OWF), a JV between VolkerWessels and Boskalis Offshore, and within just 15 weeks, Volker Staal en Funderingen (VSF), has build a 405 ton Pre-Piling Template (PPT) for the installation of 70 Offshore Wind Turbine Foundations.
OWF is contracted by Iberdrola Renewables Offshore Deutschland GmbH to transport and install 70 turbine foundations at the Wikinger offshore windfarm in the German sector of the Baltic Sea.
The PPT will be used to pre-install foundation piles into the seabed, prior to the placement and grouting of the four-legged jacket foundation structures, by means of the Boskalis vessel named Giant 7. The contract was based on a collaborative approach, and utilises the strengths, experience and flexibility of the project team from both OWF and VSF to meet the challenging schedule and installation tolerance requirements on the project.
The scope of supply for VSF has been the supply, fabrication, transportation and final assembly of the PPT. With LDD being the designer of the PPT. Construction has been performed at VSF fabricating facilities in the
port of Rotterdam. Final assembly has been performed in Rostock Germany.
Rob van Gemert, Project Director, Offshore WindForce WIK, said, “VSF has supported us from the start of the project with their expertise and experience in offshore pile driving. They have taken on the tall task of fabricating one of the World’s largest piling frames engineered and designed in conjunction with LDD.
The support and flexibility demonstrated by VSF are second to none. The piling template has been manufactured within very strict tolerances and to the highest standards, on a very critical time schedule and well within the agreed upon budget. We are grateful to everyone at VSF for an outstanding performance.“
