VolkerWessels bouwt windmolenpark in Ierse Zee

Amersfoort, 1 mei 2012. VolkerWessels legt het 'West of Duddon Sands' windmolenpark in de Ierse zee aan. Het werk betreft het voorbereiden van de zeebodem en het transport en de installatie van 108 windturbine funderingen. De gezamenlijke contractwaarde is ca.115 miljoen euro.

Het project wordt integraal uitgevoerd in een joint venture, bestaande uit VolkerWessels onderneming Volker Construction International, Boskalis Offshore en SMIT Marine Projects. Partners DONG Energy en Scottish Power Renewabels hebben de opdracht voor de gedeeltelijke aanleg van het 'West of Duddon Sands' windmolenpark in de Ierse zee gegeven.

Het werk omvat het transport van de funderingen, bestaande uit monopiles en transitiestukken van Aalborg in Denemarken naar Belfast in Noord Ierland. In Belfast wordt een haventerrein aangepast voor de offshore werkzaamheden. Op de zeebodem wordt een eerste beschermlaag aangebracht, waarna de monopiles en transitiestukken op transport gaan vanuit Belfast naar de bouwlocatie. Daar vinden de hei- en installatiewerkzaamheden plaats. Zodra de installatie is afgerond worden verdere beschermlagen rond de funderingen aangebracht. De uitvoering van het werk start in het eerste kwartaal van 2013 en wordt halverwege 2014 opgeleverd.

VolkerWessels heeft veel ervaring met de ontwikkeling en productie van duurzame energiebronnen.Onlangs introduceerden we werkmaatschappij Volker Stevin Offshore als specialist in offshore windfunderingsoplossingen. Werkmaatschappij Visser & Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) is een toonaangevende kabelonderneming die eerder dit jaar al het contract tekende voor leggen van de kabels vanaf het windmolenpark 'West of Duddon Sands' naar de kust.


VolkerWessels acquires wind farm in Irish Sea

Amersfoort, May 1 2012. VolkerWessels has acquired the contract for 'West of Duddon Sands' offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea. The work comprises the preparation of the seabed and the transport and installation of 108 wind turbine foundations. The combined contract value is EURO 115 million.

Het project is integrally carried out in a Joint Venture which exists of VolkerWessels company Volker Construction International, Boskalis Offshore en SMIT Marine Projects. Partners DONG Energy and Scottish Power Renewabels awarded the partial Construction of the 'West of Duddon Sands' wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The project includes the transport of the foundations, consisting of monopiles and transition pieces, from Aalborg in Denemarken to Belfast in Noord Ierland. In Belfast a yard area will be set up to accommodate smooth operations offshore. Offshore an initial scour protection(filter) layer will be placed on the seabed, after which monopiles and transition pieces will be transported to the wind farm area in the Irish Sea. There the piling and grouting operations take place. Once the installation has been completed, a further scour protection layer around the piles will be laid. The work will commence in the first quarter of 2013 and be completed mid 2014.
